The Chiefs’ rivalry with the Bills has proved to be a good thing for children’s hospitals in Kansas City and Buffalo.

After the Chiefs’ 42-36 overtime win over the Bills in January’s AFC Divisional playoff game, fans celebrated by making $13 donations to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. That 13 figure may seem odd to some outside KC, but that’s how many seconds the Chiefs needed to tie that game and force overtime.

All told, the hospital said it received $442,000 from Chiefs fans and Giants supporters who joined the cause.

After Buffalo defeated the Chiefs 24-20 last month at Arrowhead Stadium, Bills fans returned the favor. They made donations to Children’s Mercy after winning a wager.

Last week, Children’s Mercy in Kansas City tweeted thanks to a group of female Bills fans who had made a bet with Chiefs Kingdom Memes.

“This friendly rivalry is a touchdown!” the hospital wrote. “A wager between @BillsMafiaBabes and @ChiefsMMZ resulted in over $8K donated to CM following the Oct. 16 game! In our book, there were no losers Thank you, @BillsMafiaBabes for rallying #BillsMafia!”

Sometimes good can come from losing a game.
