Chiefs have little time to celebrate as Bills are coming. Here’s a quick scouting report
The Chiefs’ 42-36 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in January’s AFC Divisional playoff game is considered by many to be the greatest contest in NFL history.
Buffalo will be back at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday for a Week 6 game against the Chiefs, and the Bills can expect to hear many questions about “13 seconds” and last year’s loss. The very first question about the Chiefs came Sunday afternoon after Buffalo thumped the Steelers 38-3 in a game that wasn’t as close as that score indicates.
In a CBS interview on the field, Bills quarterback Josh Allen was asked about facing the Chiefs.
“It’ll be our biggest one on the schedule because it’s the next one,” Allen said. “We know what happened last year, but it’s last year.”
Each week, I take an early look at the Chiefs’ next opponent, and here is a quick scouting report of the Bills. The Chiefs, coming off a wild 30-29 win over the Raiders on Monday, will have little time to celebrate that victory because Buffalo is loaded.
Kickoff on Sunday is at 3:25 p.m., and the game will air on KCTV (Ch. 5).
The records
The Chiefs, 4-1, are in first place in the AFC West, while Buffalo is atop the AFC East with a 4-1 record.
The Bills lead the all-time series 27-24-1, but the Chiefs have won six of the previous eight games dating to 2013.
The offense
Allen has been sensational this season, completing 66.8% of his throws with 1,651 passing yards, 14 touchdown passes and four interceptions. As CBS noted Sunday, each of those picks has come in the first half of games.
On Sunday, Allen found receiver Gabriel Davis for a pair of long-range touchdowns, including a 98-yard score.
Chiefs fans likely remember Davis from his huge game in the playoffs. And oh by the way, Stefon Diggs is on pace for an All-Pro season, as he is averaging 7.9 receptions and 101.6 yards receiving per game.
Buffalo is averaging 7.6 yards per pass and 5.1 yards per rush. Allen is the leading rusher, but Devin Singletary and Zack Moss average 4.6 yards per tote. The Bills can be a handful for a defense, which explains why they are second in the NFL in scoring (30.4 points per game).
And Buffalo is first in third-down conversions (55.7%) in the NFL.
The defense
Buffalo is tied with San Francisco for the fewest points allowed this season (61).
Buffalo is blitzing at the lowest rate in the NFL (6.2%), but defensive end Gregory Rousseau and linebacker Von Miller each have four sacks
The Bills lead the NFL in interception percentage (4.8% of opponent passes). Safety Jordan Poyer has four of Buffalo’s eight interceptions, and the Bills are tied for the NFL lead with 11 takeaways..
