The Chiefs were thrown a curveball hours before kickoff of Monday night’s game against the Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self was scheduled to be the drum honoree for the “Monday Night Football” game, but there was a change-up. Chiefs Wire reported Self had a scheduling conflict.

Curveball? Change-up?

Call that foreshadowing because Arrowhead Stadium’s Twitter account said Royals infielder Bobby Witt Jr., who wrapped up his rookies season a week ago, would be pinch-hitting as the drum honoree.

Witt and other fans headed to the game have been advised by the Chiefs to arrive early at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs said in a release they expect “heavy delays due to rush hour traffic on Interstates 435 and 70, as well as streets around the Truman Sports Complex due to the start time of Monday’s game.” Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m.

The Chiefs also have a bit of advice for those not going to the game but who might be driving past the stadium on the way to/from work: Take a different road if possible.

Parking lots for Monday’s game will open at 2:30 p.m. All parking passes must be purchased in advance on the team’s website.

The Chiefs said R&B artist Erica Campbell will perform the national anthem with the presentation of colors by the Overland Park Police Department. The U.S. Air Force Academy’s Parachute team (Wings of Blue) will be jumping into the stadium.
