More than a few Big 12 fans can tell you why July 1, 2025 is significant.

It’s the day Texas and Oklahoma officially will leave the Big 12 Conference for the Southeastern Conference. Although Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has indicated he would prefer those schools depart before July 1, 2025, it likely won’t happen.

For now, fans of the other eight Big 12 schools will simply hope for more days like Saturday when the Longhorns lost in overtime to Texas Tech and the Sooners were beaten by Kansas State in Norman, Oklahoma.

Fans on Twitter exulted at the two defeats. Here is a bit of what was being said.
