Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was sensational Sunday in a 44-21 win over the Cardinals, but there were a few throws off the mark.

Two of those passes were just out of the reach of wide receiver Mecole Hardman.

Could Hardman have dived to catch one or both of them? Former Chiefs wide receiver Marc Boerigter apparently thought so as he tweeted: “The amount of balls Hardman gives up on is alarming. Make an effort dude. Lay out.”

A number of Chiefs fans came to Hardman’s defense, and he responded before deleting this tweet.

This was later deleted by Hardman.

Boerigter, who played for the Chiefs in 2002-03 and 2005, responded to some fans and offered a general comment about his original tweet.

In the latter, he seemed to take a veiled shot at Hardman.

Boerigter is best known among Chiefs fans for his 99-yard touchdown catch in 2002.
