A pair of Chiefs teammates were voted by their NFL peers as top 10 players in the league for a second straight year, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce dropped in the ranking.

Mahomes, who was No. 1 a year ago, ranked eighth in the annual list of the NFL’s top 100 players. Kelce slipped from fifth to 10th.

The top 20 players were revealed Sunday night on the NFL Network, and short videos were shown with each one. They included highlights and interviews with other players.

In the videos for Mahomes and Kelce, there was talk about the Chiefs’ epic 42-36 overtime win over the Bills in an AFC Divisional playoff game. That 13-second drive for a field goal was also prominent.

Kelce’s brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, said in the video: “Travis has got a mind for the game that’s just crazy. He sees it differently and we saw it with that Buffalo game. Thirteen seconds, to be able to go to Pat and call it out before the play happened

“He’s like, ‘I saw what the defense was playing before, I knew they were going to do it again so I just gave Pat the heads up to be ready.’ Pretty awesome to be able to see that in the moment like that.

“Probably one of the greatest playoff games that I’ve witnessed first-hand. That Buffalo game was unbelievable.”

As video of Kelce’s game-winning catch against the Bills was being shown, Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby said: “He’s one of those guys that in the biggest moments, he always steps up, no matter what the situation is.”

Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick added: Kelce has a great football IQ. He’s a guy who knows how to use his body. He’s got real good hands. He knows when to sit down in the zone. ... He’s a guy who combines his athleticisim and his IQ. He’s a great player.”

The victory against the Bills is prominent in the Mahomes video, too.

“Mahomes is a top player in this league,” Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons said. “He can put the ball anywhere. He’s smart and he has so much composure.”

The narrator then said: “The definition of composure is conducting a comeback with 13 seconds on the clock. it’s a composition worthy of Beethoven by Mozart Mahomes.”

Clips of the game were then shown, including the game-winning touchdown to Kelce.

“My No. 1 in the league right now,” Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said, “you gotta go with who’s the scariest guy. That you’re like, ‘When he’s on, he’s red-hot.’ Boom. I’d have to go Pat Mahomes.”

Crosby said: “The play is never over. And that’s something you have to prepare for mentally when you’re going to play him.”
