Royals’ Vinnie Pasquantino coaxed Bobby Witt Jr. into waving to TV camera in dugout
Earlier this season, Royals fans were clamoring for the team to call up first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino, because of the power and patience he showed at the plate in the minor leagues.
That wish was granted in late June, and Royals fans soon learned another reason to like Pasquantino: his sense of humor.
Pasquantino has been quick with a joke in the Royals clubhouse, and it spilled over into the dugout Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium.
After fellow rookie Bobby Witt Jr. smashed a three-run home run to cap a five-run seventh inning in the Royals’ 5-3 win over Arizona, he took a seat in the dugout. Pasquantino, who is on the 10-day injured list, sat next to Witt and took note of the television camera that was pointed in their direction.
Pasquantino coaxed a reluctant Witt into a quick wave to the camera. Kurtis Seaboldt of WHB (810 AM) shared video of the humorous moment.
It was fun to see them both laughing after Witt’s quick acknowledgment of the camera.
Witt may have been waving to his mom. Joel Goldberg asked Witt about the interaction during an interview on Bally Sports Kansas City after the game.
“Vinnie was just being Vinnie. He’s that funny guy in the clubhouse,” Witt said. “He’s just telling me the camera is on me, do something, say hi to your mom or something. Just messing with me.”
