Former Kansas City Chiefs player is relieved to get back his lost Super Bowl IV ring
Former safety Jim Kearney was the first Chiefs player ever to return two interceptions for a touchdown in a game.
Kearney did it in a 1972 in a 45-24 win over the Denver Broncos.
But this week, Kearney was glad for a different kind of return.
Dylan Garcia was at the Shoal Creek Golf Course when he spotted something in the parking lot. It was a Super Bowl IV ring, as KMBC reported, and it belonged to Kearney.
From 1967-75, Kearney was a safety for the Chiefs and played a big role in their Super Bowl IV run. His biggest moment may have been when he intercepted a pass during the Chiefs’ 17-7 win over the Raiders in the AFC Championship Game.
“When you look at this (ring) you think, ‘I must have been pretty doggone good,” Kearney told KMBC.
Garcia at first wasn’t sure if the ring was real or not, but he wanted to make sure it got back to the proper owner.
“I’m glad he got it,” Garcia told KMBC. “I can’t imagine losing something that valuable.”
Kearney was thrilled to have the ring back.
“It’s a blessing,” he told KMBC, “from the good man above.”
Here is a look at the rings the Chiefs received for winning Super Bowl IV.
