Former Kansas City Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil received his gold jacket from Hall of Fame
Former Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil still has to wait a few weeks before his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he knows what he’ll be wearing.
The induction ceremony is Aug. 6, and Vermeil will be enshrined with wide receiver Cliff Branch, tackle Tony Boselli, linebacker Sam Mills, safety LeRoy Butler, defensive lineman Bryant Young, official Art McNally and defensive lineman Richard Seymour.
Vermeil and the others at the ceremony will be wearing the iconic gold jackets that are given to Hall of Famers.
On Monday, Vermeil received the jacket, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame shared video of the moment he opened the box.
To his credit, Vermeil didn’t begin crying when he first saw the jacket.
Vermeil apparently received the 361st gold jacket, because that number is on the inside of the coat.
Vermeil coached the Chiefs, Eagles and Rams. He won a Super Bowl in St. Louis with the latter.
The Eagles had not been to the playoffs in 18 years before qualifying in four straight seasons with Vermeil as coach. They also advanced to Super Bowl XV during that time.
The Chiefs made the playoffs once under Vermeil, but they finished with a .500 or better record three times in five seasons.
