Tony Richardson shares reasons why he believes the Chiefs will excel this season
Arguably the biggest question about the Chiefs heading into the 2022 NFL season is how the offense will fare without star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
Hill was traded in March to the Miami Dolphins, and the pundits have questioned if the Chiefs offense will lose its potency without its Cheetah.
But former Chiefs fullback Tony Richardson believes the team is going to be just fine. He explained his reasons for that optimism during a chat with Maurice Jones Drew on the NFL Network.
“The key thing as you said is they have that man by the name of Patrick Mahomes,” said Richardson, who played for the Chiefs from 1995-2005. “It’s gonna be a big loss not having Tyreek Hill. But when you think about it, you still have (tight end) Travis Kelce.
“And the reason why I’m so optimistic because I had Eric Bieniemy. Eric Bieniemy was my running back coach when I was in Minnesota (in 2006-07). So you have Bieniemy, who’s a bright mind and you have Andy Reid, so I’m excited as long as you got that bad man by the name of Patrick Mahomes who ... we just found out he’s having a little boy so he’s excited, and I’m excited for this year and like you said the AFC is loaded right now.”
