Actor Henry Winkler says one of his heroes is Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
At the start of his interview Friday on “The Rich Eisen Show,” actor Henry Winkler talked about being cast on the HBO show “Barry,” and made a plug for the Season 3 finale.
Eisen was saying it can be difficult to describe “Barry” to someone who hasn’t watched it when Winkler blurted out a question.
“Have you met Patrick Mahomes?”
Eisen affirmed he had met the Chiefs quarterback.
“He’s one of my heroes,” Winkler responded.
Winkler continued: “I root for that team even though I’ve never lived there. I think he is just phenomenal to watch.”
After a short exchange about the Rams’ Aaron Donald, their chat turned to other aspects of Winkler’s life and career.
As they were preparing to end the segment, Eisen said he hoped Winkler would return and added that if so, he might get Mahomes on the phone.
Winkler, 76, gasped and then gushed about Mahomes.
“I think that his ability is such a cut above. He is so passionate in the way he plays,” Winkler said. “He is so improvisorial in the way he plays. He is so sure. I just think it is instinctually great, actually.”
Winkler asked if Mahomes listened to the show, and Eisen said yes.
Winkler responded: “Patrick. Hi, how are you? No, if Patrick is listening, I’d like to ... we make a great chicken stuffed with ricotta and spinach with an unbelievable reduction. It can be yours if you’re here in LA.”
Eisen noted the Chiefs will be in LA this season when they play the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
“Those guys are good too,” Winkler said. “Yeah, I mean they’re good quarterbacks? They are not Mahomes.”
Winkler mentions his desire to meet Mahomes a few other times in the full interview, but here are the main parts of him talking about the Chiefs quarterback.
