Royals pitcher Brady Singer had a memorable experience when he first tried KC barbecue
The Royals’ game Wednesday against Toronto will stream on YouTube, and it’ll be the second straight week they’re appear on that platform.
Broadcasters Scott Braun and Yonder Alonso worked the Guardians-Royals game this past Wednesday. During the broadcast, they interviewed Royals pitcher Brady Singer, and asked for some scouting advice.
Not about other major-league players, but on Kansas City barbecue since they’ll be in town to call the game against the Blue Jays.
Singer, who was drafted by the Royals in 2018, shared the story of his first time getting barbecue in Kansas City. It proved to be a memorable moment.
“There’s a lot (of good restaurants). Jack Stack is great,” Singer said. “The other one, Arthur Bryant’s. Arthur Bryant’s is something I went to when I was first drafted and when I first went to KC, and they had a line, I mean half a mile long, all the way out of the store. It was unbelievable.
“I like Arthur Bryant’s a lot.”
Alonso asked if Singer ever had pig wings. Singer had and he called them unbelievable.
“We can’t keep them on the table. We get them for a spread sometimes after the games and they’re literally gone,” Singer said. “You gotta be one of the first few guys in there or they’re all gone.”
Alonso mentioned he liked Q39, and Singer said he’s had a tough time finding the best barbecue spot in Kansas City.
Asking for advice won’t help, either.
“Every person from Kansas City will never say the same barbecue. Everybody’s different,” Singer said. “So I don’t know. I’ve been trying to figure it out, and I can’t figure it out.”
Alonso said: “That’s a good problem to have.”
“That’s how spoiled you are,” Braun added.
They’re not wrong.
I’ve previously shared this tweet from Milwaukee TV broadcaster Steve Chamraz, but I love it and it echoes what Singer was saying.
