For Pete's Sake

Royals’ Triple-A team collects 25 hits, five homers in win and Jackson Kowar shines, too

Maybe the only person who could find fault with the Omaha Storm Chasers’ win Wednesday over the Louisville Bats would be George Costanza.

After all, it was Costanza who once said in a “Seinfeld” episode: “In a way, I was almost too good. I started so good, I can’t go any place but down now. I got no place to go.”

Yeah, the Royals Triple-A affiliate played that well Wednesday, pounding out a 19-0 victory at Louisville.

First baseman Vinnie Pasquantino went 5 for 7 with two home runs, including a grand slam. He also added two doubles, 13 total bases and five RBIs.

Nick Pratto, playing in right field, had two hits, three RBIs, three runs scored and hit a home run.

Every Storm Chasers batter had at least one hit and scored a run, and eight had a multi-hit game. Center fielder Brewer Hicklen and shortstop Ivan Castillo each had four hits. Omaha also had five home runs and five doubles.

The Storm Chasers had 25 total hits, the first time that’s happened in a game since April 9, 2014, the team said.

The pitching was great, too.

Starter Jackson Kowar threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits with two walks and a season-best nine strikeouts.

In his last three starts with the Storm Chasers, Kowar has allowed just two runs in 16 innings pitched for a 1.13 ERA. He’s given up 10 hits, walked four and collected 21 strikeouts in that span.

Four relievers combined to allow one hit in four innings as the Storm Chasers closed out an easy victory.
