For Pete's Sake

Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. strikes playful pose on the cover of Sports Illustrated Kids

Kansas City Royals rookie Bobby Witt Jr. played shortstop in Wednesday’s 6-2 win over the White Sox, and he saved a run in the second inning.

With Jose Abreu on third and one out, Witt snagged a hot shot, held the runner and threw to first.

“I came up as a shortstop,” George Brett said in the broadcast booth, “and I couldn’t make that play.”

In the third inning, Witt hit his fourth home run of the season, a no-doubt shot that traveled an estimated 436 feet.

Witt has done some eye-popping things this season, including catch a ball while eating ice cream as he sat on a lawn chair. OK, this didn’t come during a Royals game. It was a photoshoot for Sports Illustrated Kids.

The latest issue of the magazine has Witt on the cover and proclaims him “the king of summer.”

In his last seven games, Witt is batting .280 with two doubles, a triple, three home runs and five RBIs.
