Tony Gonzalez will announce one of Kansas City Chiefs’ selections Friday at NFL Draft

For a second straight night at the 2022 NFL Draft, former Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez will be part of a big announcement involving Kansas City.

On Thursday, Gonzalez took the stage in Las Vegas when the NFL announced the Chiefs will play host to the Chargers on Sept. 15 in the first “Thursday Night Football” game to stream on Amazon Prime (the game also will air on a local network in Kansas City).

Gonzalez will be back Friday night as the NFL has invited former players to help announce team draft selections. In Gonzalez’s case, he will reveal one of the Chiefs’ two-second round picks. They have the 50th and 62nd picks overall in the second round.

“In the NFL’s continuing effort to connect the game’s greats with the next generation of stars, NFL Legends and active players will add to the excitement of the 2022 NFL Draft by announcing various selections in Las Vegas,” the NFL said in a news release.

Gonzalez, the Chiefs’ all-time leader in receptions (916), receiving yards (10,940) and touchdown receptions (76), played for the Chiefs from 1997-2008 before he was traded to Atlanta. Gonzalez played five seasons for the Falcons before retiring.

In 2019, Gonzalez was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will be one of seven Hall of Famers to announce team picks on Friday night. The others are Aeneas Williams (Arizona Cardinals), Barry Sanders (Detroit Lions), Tony Boselli (Jacksonville Jaguars), Emmitt Smith (Dallas Cowboys), Marcus Allen (Las Vegas Raiders) and Larry Csonka (Miami Dolphins).

Three former Chiefs will introduce picks (but just one will be for Kansas City): Gonzalez, Allen and Darrelle Revis (Jets).
