Travis Kelce: Chiefs are ‘juiced up’ to prove doubters wrong after AFC title game loss
Toward the end of the NFL Draft’s first round on Thursday night, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce joined one of ESPN’s studio crews in Las Vegas.
It was after the Chiefs had selected Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie with the 21st pick, and Kelce promised to wear him out.
Kelce was asked “When you draft a guy like Trent McDuffie in your mind do you think, ‘I’ve got to work that guy in practice?’”
Kelce didn’t miss a beat, saying: “Immediately” as the ESPN hosts all laughed.
The McDuffie pick received Kelce’s approval as he said he has complete trust in Chiefs general manager Brett Veach.
When the Chiefs selected Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis, there was another funny moment (video from Twitter user Austin).
Later in the show, Kelce was asked about the two players the Chiefs had drafted and how it must feel good for his team, which will be trying to make the Super Bowl for the third time in the last four season.
Kelce said the Chiefs are motivated to prove they’re still the top dogs in the AFC.
“We’re juiced up and I’m not gonna lie,” Kelce said. “We were a little juiced up before this day. We’re fired up. We know a lot of people are looking at us like we’re not the same team even before the Tyreek Hill trade. We just didn’t make the Super Bowl last year. That’s a step down from where we were the year before.”
