For Pete's Sake

Here is every player selected with the 29th overall pick in the NFL Draft since 2000

When the Tennessee Titans selected Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson with the 29th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, it was called “at least a slight reach” by NFL Media’s Gennaro Filice and Dan Parr.

As it turns out, that was a charitable reaction.

Wilson was suspended for a week for violating team rules and appeared in just one game as a rookie. After the season, Wilson tweeted he was done playing for the Titans. Although he deleted the tweet, Wilson was traded to the Dolphins.

Miami cut Wilson a short time later after he “showed up late for his physical, late for his team orientation and skipped two optional workouts that he had committed to attend,” as the Miami Herald reported.

That story noted Wilson had refused the Dolphins’ help to get his “life back on track.” He was briefly with the Giants practice squad but is currently a free agent.

The Kansas City Chiefs hold the 29th pick in the NFL Draft and undoubtedly hope they won’t select a draft bust like Wilson. It’s not all bad news. Since 2000, there have been some excellent players available at No. 29, including safety Harrison Smith and center Nick Mangold.
