Royals’ Hunter Dozier again partners with KC barbecue restaurant for a special cause
As a kid growing up in Texas, the Royals’ Hunter Dozier looked up to his older brother, Devin, and as adults, they remain close.
That brotherly bond is part of the reason why Dozier has supported Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City the past three years.
“They just do an incredible job with connecting kids with their bigs and finding that support,” Dozier said. “They do such a good job and it’s something that when I’m in Kansas City, I want to be a part of helping them out and help them raise money and bring awareness to them.
“I have an older brother. I have a dad who I’ve looked up to. And for kids that don’t have that or need more this is a great organization that helps those kids.”
One way Dozier is helping Big Brothers Big Sisters is by once again lending his name to a Zarda-Bar-B-Q sandwich, the Big Dozier.
It’s made with Zarda’s limited reserve burnt ends, pulled pork and provolone cheese, topped with onion straws. It’s all on a toasted bun from Roma Bakery.
Proceeds from the sale of the Big Dozier will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City and Hunter’s Heroes. In 2021, sales of the sandwich reportedly raised $15,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
This year the sandwich will be sold at Zarda’s locations in Lenexa and Blue Springs throughout the Royals season, and at Kansas City area Hy-Vee stores through the summer.
“We are honored to be the recipient of such a great (and tasty) campaign. We know that the funds raised will help support waiting littles in our community,” Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City CEO Micheal Lawrence said in a news release. “We are grateful to Hunter, Hy-Vee, and Zarda for their efforts in defending potential.”
