Former K-State coach Bill Snyder congratulates KU for winning national championship
There likely were some Kansas State fans who weren’t, shall we say, thrilled to see the Jayhawks cut the nets last week in New Orleans following their victory in the NCAA national championship game.
That’s the nature of any rivalry. Fans usually don’t root for their foes to succeed, so Wildcats supporters couldn’t be blamed for tuning out after the Kansas men’s basketball team won the NCAA Tournament’s final game.
But one prominent former Kansas State coach wasn’t just happy for the Jayhawks, he went so far as to publicly congratulate them.
Bill Snyder, the legendary former Wildcats football coach, is known for writing letters to opposing players, some of whom had just defeated his team. This time Snyder, who retired following the 2018 season, took to Twitter to toast KU, coach Bill Self and Jayhawks fans for the NCAA national championship.
“Congratulations to Bill Self, his staff, the KU players and their fans for a special accomplishment and an NCAA National Championship,” Snyder wrote. “Well deserved. Our state is proud of you.”
