For Pete's Sake

One sack and two tackles for loss in nine games doesn’t sound like much production for a defensive end, but Melvin Ingram’s impact on the Chiefs went beyond those numbers.

After the Chiefs acquired Ingram in a trade last season with the Steelers, the defense clearly improved.

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo talked with reporters in December about Ingram’s influence on the team.

“I say that to him all the time, I say, ‘You play angry, and I love it, you’ve got everybody else getting angry too,’” Spagnuolo said.

That angry playing style may be on display in a different stadium next season. Ingram, whose contract expired at the end of last season, is a free agent. He visited the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

The Miami Herald noted Ingram was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the No. 13 edge defender in the NFL this past season and the seventh-best player against the run.

The Chiefs have $18.1 million in salary-cap space, per the NFLPA, so theoretically they could sign Ingram, who turns 33 later this month. Should the Chiefs try and sign Ingram? Vote in our poll and/or leave a comment.
