Flight 816 from Chicago to Kansas City encountered some turbulence as it left the Windy City and a bit more before landing safely at the intended destination.

Then things got a little bumpy again.

This had nothing to do with masks, which were worn by all throughout the 80-minute flight on Southwest Airlines.

After touch down, phones were turned on and messages were checked as a flight attendant instructed passengers to stay in their seats with the seat belt fastened until the plane had come to a stop at the gate. You likely know the drill.

There was a pause before another message was given to travelers.

“I know some of you are Kansas fans,” a flight attendant said, “but ... GO NORTH CAROLINA! TAKE IT ALL!”

Groans were audible throughout the cabin.

Then another voice was heard. It was a second flight attendant who had a much different message.

“NO! ROCK CHALK JAYHAWKS!” she said to scattered cheers on the plane.

This was just days before the Final Four, so one can only imagine what that Southwest Airlines crew is saying now with KU set to play North Carolina in Monday night’s NCAA Tournament national championship game in New Orleans.

One thing is certain, no matter the outcome of the big game: there is going to be one happy flight attendant, and a co-worker who won’t be interested in rehashing what happened in the game between two of college basketball’s blue bloods.

But for those on that Southwest plane, they were treated to a fun bit of in-flight entertainment, college basketball style.

Alas, there is no video because I didn’t know the flight attendants would show their support for what turned out to be the title-game participants.
