‘No, Mahomes.’ Royals’ Salvador Perez shakes off MLB Network comparison to Tom Brady
It seems unlikely that Kansas City sports fans could love Royals catcher Salvador Perez any more than they do, but that support may have gone to 11 after last week’s appearance on the MLB Network.
The network was visiting the Royals at their spring-training home in Surprise, Arizona, and stopped to speak with Perez.
Co-host Alanna Rizzo compared Perez to being a quarterback of the team because he’s the only one on the field who is part of every play (other than the pitcher, of course). Kevin Pillar, the other co-host, took the baton and slapped Perez on the arm before saying, “Tom Brady.”
Without missing a beat, Perez said, “No, Patrick Mahomes.”
Rizzo said she was a Broncos fan and asked if maybe he’d like to be compared with Denver quarterback Russell Wilson rather than the Chiefs’ Mahomes.
“Ah, no,” Perez said. “Patrick Mahomes.”
The three all broke out laughing, and I’m guessing fans of the Royals and Chiefs will do the same with this video.
Naturally, Perez is going to pick Mahomes over Brady.
Mahomes, who has won NFL and Super Bowl MVP awards, is part of the Royals ownership group. Perez cheers for the Chiefs and in the past has banged the drum before a game.
