They may not recall this, but Kansas City Chiefs fans have seen the team’s new safety, Justin Reid, play multiple times at Arrowhead Stadium.

Reid had a pair of tackles in the Houston Texans’ 31-24 win over the Chiefs on Oct. 13, 2019. A few months later he had three tackles and ran the ball once in the Texans’ 51-31 playoff loss to the Chiefs. That rushing attempt came on an ill-fated fake-punt attempt that helped the Chiefs turn the tide.

Houston’s very next game again was at Arrowhead Stadium: the 2020 season opener, which the Chiefs won 34-20. Reid had five tackles and a pass defended.

Fans could be forgiven for not remembering Reid’s play in any of the three games, so here is a look at what Reid, who agreed to a three-year deal with KC, will bring to the Chiefs.

Big hitter

Let’s start with that playoff loss to the Chiefs. Reid delivered a huge (and legal) hit on Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Solid tackler

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce isn’t easy to bring down, but in the 2020 season opener, Reid made this nice tackle.

Good speed

At the NFL Combine, Reid ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, and his speed was on display on this interception at Washington during the 2018 season. Here are two views of a pick-six.

Right on time

This interception against the Titans was by Whitney Mercilus, but it was Reid who made the play. He read the Titans receiver’s move and timed his hit perfectly.

Let’s get picky

Reid has seven interceptions in his career, and this one came last season against the Browns as he was in the right spot at the right time.

Bonus: He can kick

It seems Reid could be an emergency kicker, too. Check out this kickoff from a preseason game.
