For Pete's Sake

At Pro Bowl, mic’d-up Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes shared thoughts on playing for Andy Reid

The Pro Bowl affords players an opportunity to talk with peers they normally wouldn’t speak with during a game.

For instance, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby chatted on the AFC sideline, and Crosby had a question.

“What’s (Chiefs coach) Andy Reid like,” Crosby asked. “Is he chill?”

Mahomes likened Reid to a family member.

“He’s super cool,” Mahomes said. “I mean, it’s almost like your uncle, you know what I mean? He’s like cool, cool, cool. But you can’t like, don’t disappoint him because he’ll get mad. But he’s gonna give you your freedom to do what you want to do.”

Crosby and Mahomes also talked about their Pro Bowl coach, Mike Vrabel of the Titans.

Before the game, Mahomes encouraged Patriots quarterback Mac Jones to do the Griddy at some point.

The Sporting News explained the origin of that dance: “The Griddy dance was originally invented by Louisiana’s Allen Davis, a friend of former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who wanted to create his own rhythmic dance after he was inspired by the Nae Nae craze in the mid 2010s.”

Mahomes also shared that he doesn’t know how to do the Griddy in another fun moment from the game.
