When the fourth update of American League All-Star Game voting was released on June 15, the Royals’ Mike Moustakas had a 2.7 million vote lead over Toronto’s Josh Donaldson among third basemen.

On Monday, Donaldson had zoomed past Moustakas into first in the voting for third base and now has a lead of better than 1.3 million.

You may be asking yourself what happened. Well, the answer is Donaldson had a little help from a superhero. Well, at least an actor who portrays one on TV.

Stephen Amell, who plays Arrow (or Green Arrow, to some of us oldtimers) on the CW Television Network show of the same name, made a plea of Facebook for people to vote for Donaldson. Amell, a Toronto native, also seemed mildly peeved that the Royals had so many players leading in the voting.

Donaldson undoubtedly helped his own cause with a great catch during a game last week against the Rays. Amell turned that into another campaign video.

You can find other Amell For Donaldson videos on YouTube.

The question to ask now is whether or not “Ant-Man” star/Royals fan Paul Rudd will throw his weight behind Moustakas.
