Tickets are available for the AFC Championship Game but will cost you a pretty penny

Even people in Kansas City who don’t consider themselves football fans may want to see the Chiefs play host to the AFC Championship Game for the next four years or so.

That’s because the weather has gotten better each year the title game has been played at Arrowhead Stadium.

Fox 4 meteorologist Garry Frank noted the forecast for Sunday’s game against the Bengals is sunny with a high of 48 degrees. Last year, it was 40 degrees with drizzle. In 2019, a windy and cloudy day made it feel colder than 23 degrees, and the year before that it was 19 degrees with flurries.

At the rate we’re going it could be 70 degrees in KC in late January if the Chiefs are hosting the AFC Championship Game in, say, 2026.

The good forecast hasn’t driven up ticket prices on the secondary market, possibly because they were so high to begin the week.

TickPick said Friday morning the average purchase price is now $556 and the get-in price is $509. That makes it the third-most expensive AFC Championship Game ticket price ever, according to TickPick’s records.

That’s behind the 2018 Patriots-Jaguars game ($754) and last year’s Chiefs-Bills contest ($893).

StubHub said as of Friday morning it had more than 2,100 tickets available for the game, and fans could get in for $485.

The average ticket price at StubHub was $745, and it found most fans are coming from three states: Missouri (18%), Kansas (15%) and Ohio (10%).

TickPick’s data said 59% of purchases were coming from fans with a Kansas City zip code and 25% were from an Ohio zip code.

A reminder for those not attending the game: Kickoff is at 2:05 p.m. and will air on CBS (KCTV, Ch. 5).
