For Pete's Sake

Here’s how loud Bengals practice got as they prepare to face Chiefs at Arrowhead

Of all the potential story lines heading into Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, a debate over the loudness of Arrowhead Stadium is perhaps the most surprising.

But a quote from Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in October about the fan noise at SEC stadiums resurfaced and Chiefs fans promised to show him Arrowhead Stadium can be louder than a college stadium.

Despite any talk of having played in noisy college stadiums, the Bengals are preparing to have difficulty hearing at Arrowhead Stadium.

ESPN’s Michelle Steele recorded a video outside of Paul Brown Stadium this week, and the Bengals have turned the fake crowd noise up to 11 during practice.

Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd was asked about playing in front of boisterous road crowds and if cranking the noise at practice was a help.

“It’s real tough, but I think a lot of the guys, and specifically Joe, is kind of ready for that because guys like him and (receiver Ja’Marr) Chase and guys who played in the SEC played against opponents where it was hundreds of thousands of fans in the stadium,” Boyd told reporters Thursday.

“But at the end of the day, we’ve just got to be perfect with our hand signals and with communication. We’ve got to stay locked in and keep eyes on the quarterback and he’ll just get us the right call and we’ll know what we’re doing.”
