A few months after a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs suggested a rule change at an NFL owners meeting.
But the Chiefs’ proposal to change overtime rules — allowing both teams to get possession of the ball — was not ratified.
That turned out to be in the Chiefs’ favor Sunday night when they won the postgame coin toss, got the ball and scored the winning touchdown to defeat the Buffalo Bills 42-36 in overtime of an epic AFC Divisional playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Tight end Travis Kelce caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to send the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game.
