Chiefs radio team forced to make alternate travel plan to Cincinnati for Sunday’s game

The COVID-19 pandemic and inclement winter weather combined to wreak havoc on travelers over the holidays.

USA Today reported that more than 24,000 flights were canceled between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day because of snow, sleet and staff shortages due to the omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Among those who were had their flight canceled were members of the Chiefs radio team.

Analyst Danan Hughes tweeted a photo that showed he had joined sideline reporter Josh Klingler and pregame host Dan Israel to drive to Cincinnati for Sunday’s game against the Bengals after their flight was canceled.

The broadcasters hit the road Saturday, and Klingler made reference to Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s reaction to a blowout loss to the Chiefs in 2014.

No word on Mitch Holthus, but one would think he flew with the Chiefs. Hughes made a joke.

It’s about an 8 1/2 hour drive to Cincinnati, but the radio team did arrive in the Queen City well ahead of kickoff.
