For Pete's Sake

‘I’m back,’ Patrick Mahomes says as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback shuts down haters

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes seemed off for portions of Thursday night’s 34-28 win over the Chargers ... until he wasn’t.

Late in the third quarter at SoFi Stadium, Mahomes missed a seemingly easy throw to receiver Mecole Hardman from the Chargers 1-yard line, costing the Chiefs a touchdown. On the next drive, Mahomes was intercepted inside the Chiefs’ 5-yard line and the Chargers scored a touchdown shortly after that.

Fans wondered if Mahomes was broken or injured, while many others compared him to Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.

Then a funny thing happened.

Each of the next three drives for the Chiefs covered 75 yards (excluding to end regulation). And each resulted in a touchdown.

Mahomes’ final pass was a 34-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce that won the game.

The final numbers for Mahomes: 31 of 47 passes for 410 yards, three touchdowns and the interception.

When the Chiefs won the game, cameras caught Mahomes screaming: “I’m back!”

Chiefs fans reveled in Mahomes’ play and the victory.
