For Pete's Sake

Raiders held their pregame huddle on the Chiefs’ logo, then had horrific start to game

Having lost four of their previous five games heading into Sunday’s contest against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, the Raiders were looking for a spark.

So they decided to move their pregame team huddle from one end of the field to the 50-yard line, right on the Chiefs’ logo.

As one might expect, that led to Chiefs fans showering the Raiders with boos.

Did the Raiders’ succeed in their mission to build excitement? Possibly, but unfortunately for Las Vegas, it was the Chiefs who started strong.

The Chiefs kicked off, and on the Raiders’ first play, running back Josh Jacobs was hit by the Chiefs’ Jarran Reed and fumbled. Cornerback Mike Hughes scooped up the ball and ran it back for a touchdown.

Things continued to go wrong for the Raiders, who muffed the ensuing kickoff.

Later in the first quarter, the Chiefs took a 14-0 lead on Darrel Williams’ 23-yard catch and run on a pass from Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs cornerback Mike Hughes recovered a Las Vegas fumble and returned it for a touchdown early in the first quarter in Sunday’s game against the Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium.
