Vote now: Should Chiefs sign Odell Beckham Jr., who Browns reportedly will release?
Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. won’t be “excused” from any more practices in Cleveland.
The Browns are planning to release Beckham, the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport reported Friday.
“The release will happen after the club and Beckham agree to a reworked contract, Rapoport added. Regardless of when the move goes down, Beckham has played his last game in Cleveland,” Kevin Patra wrote for NFL.com.
Beckham reportedly was unhappy with the lack of targets from Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. That’s why Beckham was held out of practice twice this week.
NFLPA figures show the Chiefs have $1.5 million in salary-cap space, which would seem to make it impossible for Kansas City to sign Beckham. But ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the reworked contract for Beckham could reduce his salary to $1 million.
If that’s the case, and if the Chiefs could claim Beckham (KC is not in the top 10 in waiver order), should they?
Beckham is a three-time Pro Bowler and has five seasons with 1,000 or more receiving yards. He had double-digit touchdown receptions in his first three seasons in the NFL.
Tyreek Hill and Beckham on opposite ends of the line of scrimmage would be a headache for opposing defenses. But do you think Beckham, who is about to leave his second team in three years, would be too much of a headache?
