For Pete's Sake

KC Chiefs fans cheered Alex Smith inside and outside Arrowhead Stadium on Monday

Alex Smith’s new job brought him back to Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, nearly four years after his last game with the Chiefs.

In five seasons as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, Smith had 17,608 passing yards and 102 touchdown throws while helping Kansas City win 50 regular-season games and earn four playoff berths (2013, 2015-17).

Smith retired last season after playing with the Washington Football Team and he joined ESPN. The network’s “Monday Night Countdown” crew was at Arrowhead Stadium, and Smith joined them.

Chiefs fans were thrilled to see Smith, even before he entered the stadium.

Smith caught up with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce before kickoff:

Smith made his way to the drum deck at Arrowhead Stadium and received a rousing ovation from Chiefs fans.
