Nicky Lopez set a Royals record this season with 72 consecutive errorless games at shortstop. He also led all American League shortstops in Fangraphs’ Defensive Runs Above Average and Ultimate Zone Rating.

According to Statcast, Lopez’s 25 Outs Above Average were five more than second-place Francisco Lindor of the Mets.

But none of that was enough to get Lopez one of three nominations for the American League Gold Glove award at shortstop.

After the nominees were announced at every position on Thursday, the Royals tweeted a funny response to the snub.

Lopez also tweeted about it, but he didn’t write a word. Instead, he shared a single emoji.

Shortly after that, Lopez retweeted the Royals tweet about Kansas City’s other Gold Glove finalists: catcher Salvador Perez, left fielder Andrew Benintendi, second baseman Whit Merrifield and center fielder Michael A. Taylor.

Lopez wrote: “Let’s go fellas!! Bring home some Gold!”

Royals fans weren’t thrilled to hear Lopez didn’t even get a nomination after such an impressive season. These are some of the messages from the fans.
