Derrick Gore, activated by the Chiefs from practice squad, turned heads in preseason

Chiefs running back Derrick Gore made quite an impression during preseason games in August.

Gore, who on Tuesday was activated from the practice squad when Clyde Edwards-Helaire was put on injured reserve, appeared in all three preseason games. He rushed for 86 yards in 18 attempts and caught six passes for 82 yards.

Two plays in particular stood out.

In the Chiefs’ 17-10 win at Arizona on Aug. 20, Gore rushed for 10 yards on a third-down play from the Arizona 12-yard line. It appeared he could have scored a touchdown with less than 2 minutes to play but chose to go out of bounds.

As Twitter user Alex noted, the ESPN announcers thought Gore made a mistake.

But Gore secured the victory by not scoring the touchdown. The Cardinals were out of timeouts so the Chiefs went into victory formation and took a knee three times to close out the win.

A week later, Gore did score a touchdown, this time on a dazzling 56-yard catch and run against the Vikings. As Trent Green noted in the broadcast, there were a lot of great blocks, but this was also a fantastic play by Gore:

If Gore plays Sunday against Washington, it will be his first action in a regular-season game.
