Ben Affleck defies director’s order to wear Yankees hat in 'Gone Girl'
There’s one reason to like the new movie, “Gone Girl.”
It’s apparently free of Yankees hats.
At least among its star, Ben Affleck. He told the New York Times that there is a scene in the movie in which Affleck’s character is trying to avoid detection in an airport, so he dons a baseball cap.
The director, David Fincher, insisted Affleck wear a Yankees hat. Affleck, a fervent Red Sox fan, insisted he not.
“I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,’” Affleck told the newspaper. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.”
In the end, Affleck won out. And he’s right. A screen grab of Affleck in a Yankees hat would have gone viral. He wore a Mets hat instead.
“That was the only fight David and I had,” Mr. Affleck said, “and it was a legitimate fight.”
