Cardinals haters have fresh ammunition in wake of FBI hacking investigation
The so-called Best Fans In Baseball are supporting a team that may have the Worst Employee In Baseball.
The New York Times reported that the Justice Department and the FBI were investigating front-office personnel for the St. Louis Cardinals for possibly hacking into the internal network of the Houston Astros.
The reason? According to the Times, it was to gain information about player personnel.
“Major League Baseball has been aware of and has fully cooperated with the federal investigation into the illegal breach of the Astros’ baseball operations database,” a spokeman for Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement issued Tuesday. “Once the investigative process has been completed by federal law enforcement officials, we will evaluate the next steps and will make decisions promptly.”
Naturally, it was like Christmas in June for many sports fans, who roasted the Cardinals:
