The Royals started a double play Thursday by tossing the ball over umpire’s head

Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi can do some amazing things on a baseball diamond.

Mondesi is one of the fastest players in Major League Baseball, but he also can show effortless power and he’s a slick fielder.

Case in point on that last attribute: a 6-4-3 double play during the Royals’ 8-7 victory against the Tigers. The ball off the bat of Niko Goodrum was headed up the middle. Mondesi ran to his left, fielded the ball and found umpire Manny Gonzalez between him and second base.

Not a problem.

Mondesi simply flipped the ball over Gonzalez’s head to Nicky Lopez, who turned the double play.
