LeBron James surprised about low award voting for former KU star Devonte’ Graham
Lakers star LeBron James wasn’t thrilled to lose the NBA MVP award to Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he also wondered why a former KU star didn’t get some love for another award.
James said he was “pissed” that he didn’t get more votes in the MVP race and questioned how Charlotte Hornets guard Devonte’ Graham finished so low in the Most Improved Player Award.
The Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram won that award with 326 points, followed by Miami’s Bam Adebayo (295), Dallas’ Luka Doncic (101) and the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum (57). Graham got two first-place votes and 50 points overall, finishing fifth.
On Friday, James talked about the NBA voting process and mentioned Graham by name.
“I looked at the Most Improved this year and rightfully so, Brandon Ingram was amazing and I thought he should’ve won it, but did you see the votes Devonte’ Graham got? He averaged four points last year compared to 17 1/2,” James said. “If that’s not improving, what is? Its just a weird thing sometimes that, I don’t know how much we are really watching the game of basketball, or are we just in the narration mode? The narrative.”
