Former Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt has a family connection with new team, Steelers
Punter Dustin Colquitt was released by the Chiefs in April, but he made an appearance at Arrowhead Stadium on Tuesday.
Colquitt was back in the stadium where he played for 15 seasons and received his Super Bowl LIV championship ring from Chiefs CEO chairman Clark Hunt.
On Monday, Colquitt found a new NFL home: Heinz Field, as he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It’s odd not to see him in a red jersey:
Colquitt will be the second member of his family to play for the Steelers. His father, Craig, was Pittsburgh’s punter from 1978-81 and 83-84. During that time, the Steelers won a pair of Super Bowl championships.
Craig Colquitt was at Super Bowl LIV and told the Lebanon (Pennsylvania) Democrat the Chiefs’ playoff run was hard on him.
“I am shocked how much anxiety I’ve experienced,” Craig told the Democrat. “The season was tough, but when it gets to the playoffs … I didn’t know if they were going to make it.
“Titans were up by 10, Texans were up by 21 … I had already given up (watching on TV when Chiefs played Houston in the divisional round). I went outside and started hitting golf balls.”
Now Craig Colquitt, who lives in Lebanon, should be able to see Dustin’s games with more frequency as he’s moved to Pennsylvania.
