For Pete's Sake

Barrier to Chiefs using old touchdown song appears to be gone

The Chiefs will have a new touchdown song this season thanks to tight end Travis Kelce’s vocal, ah, stylings after the AFC Championship Game.

Kelce grabbed the CBS Sports microphone and reminded the nation “You’ve got to fight for your right to party.”

That’s from the hit by the Beastie Boys and Kelce said the Chiefs will use “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)“ as the new touchdown song at Arrowhead Stadium in the 2020 season.

Will this new song resonate with fans like one in the past? “Rock ‘N’ Roll Part Two” by Gary Glitter (whose real name is Paul Gadd) was a huge fan favorite. But it was dropped by the Chiefs ahead of the 2015 season.

Royalties were going to Gadd, who was sent to prison in 2015 for sexual abuse cases involving underage girls in the late 1970s.

At one point, Gadd was making a reported $250,000 in annual performance royalties for the song.

That has changed.

“Rock ‘N’ Roll Part Two” was featured in the movie, “Joker,” and USA Today inquired as to whether Gadd would be compensated.

“Snapper Music, the UK record label that has owned Glitter’s master rights since 1997, confirmed to USA Today that the singer would not be making money off the film, explaining that Glitter will not be paid royalties or any other fees from the catalog” the newspaper wrote.

So that theoretically could remove the barrier for the Chiefs to bring back “Rock ‘N’ Roll Part Two” as the touchdown song. Although there will be limited attendance at Arrowhead Stadium this season, more fans could come later in the year and hopefully there will be no restrictions in 2021.

So, which TD song would you like the Chiefs to use? Vote in our poll and/or leave a comment.
