Marlins player had the ‘least graceful steal of home you will ever see’
Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Jon Berti pulled off a rarity in baseball on Tuesday night: the stolen-base cycle.
In the sixth inning, Berti led off against the Mets relief pitcher Jeurys Familia and drew a walk. Berti then stole second and, with one out, swiped third base.
With two outs, Berti attempted a delayed steal of home.
“The last one there was just a thought that kind of came up in the moment,” Berti told MLB.com. “I’ve always kind of wanted to do it, or thought of doing something like that, and fortunately it worked out.”
It almost didn’t work out, as Berti stumbled while racing toward the plate. He ended up doing a bear crawl, which is something you don’t see often on the basepaths. As MLB tweeted: It was “the least graceful steal of home you will ever see.”
“I honestly didn’t realize how far I did bear crawl,” Berti told MLB.com.
Here are all three stolen bases, which hasn’t happened in a game since the Mariners’ Mallex Smith did it on May 27, 2019, as MLB.com noted.
