Astros’ Zack Greinke kept close watch over groundskeepers fixing mound

During his 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, Houston Astros pitcher Zack Greinke has stood out for a couple of reasons.

Greinke has won a Cy Young Award, made six All-Star Games and posted a season-low ERA in both leagues. That kind of success is hard to miss.

But Greinke also has been known to tip his pitches intentionally, tell his teammates when they deserved to have an opponent hit a home run, and Greinke has thrown some incredible slow pitchers.

That also is something you don’t see in Major League Baseball, and Greinke did the latter again Sunday.

While facing the Padres, Greinke threw a 54 mph curveball for a strike:

A little later, Greinke had an issue with the pitching mound and summoned the groundskeepers for a repair. He kept close watch:
