CBS sportswriter jogged in public in a diaper because Eric Hosmer hit a grand slam

The week began with a San Diego Padres player hitting a grand slam that led to a discussion of baseball’s “unwritten rules.”

On Thursday, another Padres player hit a grand slam and exposed an unwritten rule among baseball fans: don’t make stupid promises.

CBS Sports’ Danny Vietti learned that the hard way.

The Padres had tied a National League record by hitting a grand slam in three straight games, beginning Monday with Fernando Tatis’ shot that set off managers of both teams.

Wil Myers hit a grand slam on Tuesday and Manny Machado did the same Wednesday, tying the 1895 Cleveland Spiders as the only NL teams with three consecutive slams.

Could they make it four straight? On Thursday, Vietti tweeted this:

Turns out it was Hosmer who did the damage. Hosmer, the former Royals first baseman, cleared the bases in the fifth inning of San Diego’s game against the Rangers:

“I think we’ll be looking for the Twitter pictures and all that,” Hosmer said of Vietti’s pledge. “So hopefully whoever it is sticks to their word.”

Vietti, as you’ve probably noted, changed his Twitter handle to “Eric Hosmer made me wear a diaper.” He shared the photo himself:

“Eric Hosmer, I hate you but at the same time I love you for doing this,” Vietti said in the video below:
