Rookie reportedly cut for trying to sneak woman in Seahawks gear into team’s hotel
Kemah Siverand was a long shot to make the Seattle Seahawks roster this season, but now he may be lucky if he ever gets a call from another NFL team.
Siverand, who played sparingly for Texas A&M and then Oklahoma State, was released Wednesday by the Seahawks. The reason? Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported Siverand was caught on video trying to sneak a female visitor into the team hotel.
“The woman was wearing Seahawks gear in an attempt to disguise her as a player, I’m told,” Pelissero reported. “It did not work.”
Seattle coach Pete Carroll was asked about the incident during an appearance on the “Softy and Dick” program on 950 AM in Seattle.
“I would never talk about those kinds of stories,” Carroll said. “We do all that stuff, handle that on the interior. No details for that.”
Pelissero said a memo was sent last month to all 32 teams regarding hotel accommodations for players during camp. It said room visits are permitted only by members of a team’s traveling party.
Carroll said the NFL is trying to create a bubble around the team.
“There’s pages and pages of the protocols, because they go in so many directions, but just in general, you hear the phrase about creating a bubble around your team, like the NBA has done and the NHL and we’re doing the same thing here, as best we can,” Carroll said in his radio appearance. “It’s a little more complicated because a little more extended distancewise, we have guys living at home, which we think is a good thing.”
In retrospect, perhaps Siverand would have been better off getting an AirbnB.
