For Pete's Sake

Royals’ Salvador Perez had a fun moment with Mike Moustakas after Wednesday’s game

There was a mini reunion of the 2015 Royals World Series championship team this week in Cincinnati.

Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon played for the Royals, while Christian Colon appeared in both games for the Reds. Former Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is out with an injury, but he was in the dugout and told reporters he considers members of the 2015 team to be “family.”

Following the Royals’ 5-4 win over the Reds on Wednesday night, Perez sought out Moustakas and the two had a socially-distanced moment.

“Yeah, I looked into the Cincinnati dugout and I saw Moose,” Perez said after the game. “He hollered to me, ‘I love you. Good game.’

“And I told him, ‘Hey, we’ve been in that situation before, OK, so it’s no pressure.’ ... And he just started laughing.”

Those 2015 Royals never did wilt under pressure, coming back from a four-run deficit to stun the Astros in Game 4 the AL Divisional Series. The Royals also trailed in every World Series contest but won in five games.

Here is Perez talking about Moustakas and the victory:

And here is how the game ended as Colon grounded into a double play with the bases loaded:
