Patrick Mahomes may be the ‘jefe,’ but Salvador Perez has plan for striking him out
Royals catcher Salvador Perez is respectful of the franchise’s ownership group, but he’s also a competitor.
So if, say, part-owner/Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stepped to the dish against Perez’s team, there is no question Perez would call for a little chin music.
“Up and in first pitch,” Perez said Wednesday, “and slider down and away.”
How to pitch to Mahomes came up during Perez’s interview on “Intentional Talk” on the MLB Network.
Kevin Millar and Chris Rose talked with Perez about a variety of subjects, including Mahomes who bought into the Royals ownership group last month.
“He’s the new boss, huh? The new boss,” Perez said. “Great guy, great guy. ... He’s a great guy and Travis Kelce, too. Now he’s the jefe, he’s the boss.”
Jefe is Spanish for boss.
Perez gave some insights on his teammates (Alex Gordon would be the pick to sack Mahomes). Then the conversation also turned to ... table tennis. Turns out Perez love that game.
“I’m the caballo of ping pong,” Perez said. “I’m pretty good. I love to play ping pong. I played that as a kid, so I’m good (at) playing ping pong.”
