Chiefs fan believes he found Twitter burner account belonging to Raiders’ Derek Carr
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr told reporters he never considered opting out of the 2020 NFL season as others have because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carr said he’s motivated to play this fall.
“I have a lot to prove to myself. I have a lot to prove to my organization,” Carr told reporters on Tuesday. “I’m going to be completely honest with you: I’m tired of being disrespected.”
That comment about being disrespected may have led to the discovery of a burner account belonging to Carr.
Chiefs fan Tom Fehr of Kansas City saw that remark and responded.
“About 45 minutes after that, I got a reply from the account asking if i was trolling or if I just didn’t know football,” Fehr said in a Twitter Q&A. “I didn’t think much of it until about half an hour later when I opened twitter again and clicked on the profile and saw several tweets replying to people that were dragging Derek Carr.”
The account that responded to Fehr was called JayceFrost. Here is that exchange:
As Fehr noted, he took a closer look at what JayceFrost had been tweeting. There were comments about Carr and Fresno State, which is where Carr played college football.
There were responses to the Raiders signing quarterback Marcus Mariota and one about Fresno State’s uniforms. JayceFrost knew the football team had signed a deal with Adidas.
That led Fehr to believe JayceFrost was actually Carr’s burner account.
These are Twitter accounts that allow a person to anonymously follow and/or comment on what others are saying about them. Nets star Kevin Durant caught a lot of flak in 2017 when it was determined he had burner accounts on social media.
Philadelphia 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo also had a burner account, while there was speculation receiver Antonio Brown also had one.
That’s when Fehr tweeted this:
“I then tweeted my initial tweet saying i think I found his burner, and within probably about 10 minutes of that the account had deactivated,” Fehr wrote.
Yep, JayceFrost’s account was deleted shortly after Fehr’s proclamation.
But Twitter user Bird Law Expert grabbed screenshots of some other interesting tweets from JayceFrost:
Of course, there is no way to prove this was Carr’s account unless he admits to it, but the signs are all there.
On Wednesday, JayceFrost reactivated the account, but made it private. Fehr received a message from JayceFrost, who wanted to make it clear he is not Carr but merely a Fresno State fan who “loves some random debates on Twitter.”
JayceFrost then blocked Fehr:
