George Brett explains why Patrick Mahomes will be a good fit in Royals ownership group

Now that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is part owner of the Royals, does that mean he’s George Brett’s boss?

Brett, the Baseball Hall of Famer, is the Royals’ all-time leader in runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs and other categories. He’s also the team’s vice president of baseball operations.

But John Sherman is the majority owner of the Royals, so Mahomes won’t be ordering Brett around.

Last week, Brett talked with TMZ Sports about Mahomes buying into the Royals’ franchise, and said it’s a match made in heaven.

“They do things a little bit different here,” Brett told TMZ. “Your family is number 1, baseball is number 2.

“And, I think he’s going to fit right in with the ownership group and with the Royals culture that they have within the ballclub.”

Brett was asked if Mahomes might try his hand at pitching, having played baseball in high school and possessing an electric right arm.

“Do a Bo Jackson,” Brett said. “Wouldn’t that be something? I don’t think you can own the team and play for it. ...

“I know he can throw a football as good as anybody and I think he was a pitcher and a shortstop. If he can get some velocity and throw strikes, I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t blame him, I’d give it a try if I was him.”

TMZ asked how Brett in his prime would do if he faced Mahomes.

“I’d wear his (butt) out,” Brett said.

That’s not hyperbole, because Brett is one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball history.

Brett, who grew up in California, can related to Mahomes being embraced by KC fans.

“I’m sure everybody in Kansas City is real excited,” Brett says. “Because, like me, they’ve adopted Patrick Mahomes.”
