Royals’ Alex Gordon unleashed a no-look throw that nailed a runner on Wednesday

This was some Patrick Mahomes-type deception from Royals outfielder Alex Gordon.

In the second inning of Wednesday’s exhibition game in St. Louis, the Cardinals had the bases loaded with one out.

Tommy Edman lifted a fly to left field and it was deep enough to score a run. Thing is, Gordon made sure the Cardinals didn’t score.

Gordon got behind the ball as if to make a throw to third base. While looking at third base, Gordon instead threw to second base and nailed Harrison Bader who tried to tag from first.

“What a great play with Gordo and such a heads-up spot and ended up saving us a run,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said after the game, which the Cardinals won 6-3.

You can hear the umpire say “no run” because Bader was tagged out before the runner on third crossed the plate.
